This is a very renowned and iconic music video that had major publicity when first released, with its unique portrayal of simplicity. The music video is strictly performance based using a plain background and a choreographed dance routine, this making it different from other music videos at the time. The J-Setting dance choreography in the video was inspired by "Mexican Breakfast", a 1969 routine choreographed by Bob Fosse, and has been parodied and imitated around the world.
The camera angles once again, are very simple with a series of wide long shots against the white background; this draws the audience to Beyonce and her lead dancers. At intervals the long shots are zoomed into showing close ups of the girls facial expressions, this is used to give the music video more emotion and depthful understanding. The often panning of the camera following the girls dancing, gives the audience to feel the rapid intensity of the shooting sets. The panel shots exacerbate the atmoaphere and chaotic dance routine in the simplest form possible.
The lighting is very bright with added effects from the white background causing all eyes to be on three performers (inc. Beyonce). At times the lights are dimmed with spotlights once again on the three girls, this is just another technique to draw all eyes to the girls, which is also why no other props or objects are used as distractors throughout the music video.
